    University of International Relations - CIE will be holding its Summer Camp in Beijing, China 2008 from June 22 to July 19, 2008 in cooperation with International Students Center, one of the leading Mandarin course provider in Beijing. Its main objectives are to achieve an important growth in learning the Chinese language (Mandarin), experience and immerse in the traditional beautiful Chinese culture and development of China. At present, Chinese Mandarin has already become the second dominant language spoken by nearly one third of the world’s population.

    Students who will be participating in the Summer Camp will be grouped according to their Chinese Language level (Level A-Beginner, Level B-Intermediate, and Level C-Advanced). The language class will be held in the morning for 4 hours and elective classes will be in the afternoon such as Calligraphy, Chinese cooking, Tai Chi, or Chinese Songs.

    Educational tours will be held during the weekends and some on weekdays. Students will visit historical and scenic sites, museums, theatrical performances (Beijing Opera or Chinese Acrobratics) and cultural shows. Activities during the weekdays will be shopping in traditional Chinese markets, visiting local Chinese families, sports and other physical activities.

    Field trips or educational tours include: the Great Wall of China, Summer Palace, Forbidden City, Temple of Heaven, Lama Temple, Tiananmen Square, Beijing Hu Tong, Silk Market, Hong Qiao Market, Beijing Zoo and etc. Banquet dinners will also be experience by the students in which they will be able to taste authentic Beijing duck, Chinese dumplings and other Beijing delicacies.

  Must be 15 to 50 years of age (beginner, intermediate or advance learner of Mandarin)  
  Duration: 4 weeks - June 22, 2008 to July 19, 2008  
  Application deadline: June 1, 2008  
  Accommodation: University Dormitory (double standard occupancy)  
  AIMS AND FEATURES:  
    More than gaining knowledge and broadening mind, all sections of this summer camp program are to start an interaction-oriented mandarin learning experience.

1) Morning language classes to build a good foundation of Chinese phonetic systems (pinyin) and Chinese character structures.

2) Afternoon electives designed to provide different perspectives of Chinese culture including TaiQi Quan, Chinese calligraphy and painting, Chinese cooking and more.

3) Weekend cultural activities leading students to experience China’s cultural heritage, the Chinese life-style and many chances to meet new friends.

4) Immersion programs encourage students to apply their acquired language skills (speaking, listening, and writing) in real life. To name a few, they will practice how to negotiate in the market with the knowledge learned in their language classes, cook their own Chinese food with what they get from the market, present performances featuring Chinese culture and record their experience in China by writing letters to friends or parents
 


  Total Summer Camp Fees $2100 (Application fee $100 & Program fee $2000)  
  Includes: visa support documents, medical insurance, airport pickup and drop-off, accommodation, three meals per day, Chinese classes, afternoon electives, domestic transportation and entrance tickets to educational tours and supervision.
